Bamboo Backed Osage/Curley Maple Longbow (Deflexed-Reflexed)

This bow was made from two clear osage billets that were z spliced at the handle with bamboo laminated on the back. It was shaped and tillered. Next I added some curly maple lams (which i cut from some board stock I have) to the belly and some snake skins over the bamboo backing. I used buffalo horn for the tip overlays to complete the theme. The riser is also made from the same maple. I decided not to put a grip on it as it would be a shame to cover the beautifull grain in the riser, so I just added an ambidextrous rest and some fur for the strike. The bow is 62 inches long with a draw weight of 60# @ 28 inches. The string is made from D-50 dacron. This bow has proven to be very fast and very quiet, and will make an excellent hunting bow!

Black Walnut/Antler Coat Rack

This coat rack was made from a piece of one and a quarter inch black walnut. The antlers were sheds of a recent find. I added some deer prints with color and burnt them for the theme.

This was made from a really cool piece of one and a quarter inch thick black walnut, the horse shoes are used and most of them still had the original nails still attached. I dremmeled out the stensile work, finish sanded to 220, burnt and installed a conversion varnish. The horse shoes were cut, welded, grinded and painted a high gloss black.

We constructed this project with a number of different types of wood on hand. The main frame are made of western larch( tamerack), the shelves are made of two pieces and cut from a red oak log that i brought back from Wisconsin. The face frames and recessed panels are made from my bow wood stock of Osage Orange from Illinois. It was a fun project and really utilizes space.

This bow has an osage core with bamboo for backing, and gemsbock horn on the belly over bloodwood. I used buffalo horn for tip overlays and added some ebony and yellow heart to create a snake image, then installed snakeskin over the baboo backing. The riser is made of osage, blood wood and snake wood, with the rest out of soffened cow hide, and is 100 % hand made. Its tillered to 60 lb. @ 28 inches and is very fast, not to mention quiet and accurate. Thanks for looking!
